What do we measure?
The page focuses on demand and the consumption of electricity, fuels and final energy by sector where data permit, distinguishing energy actually supplied from unmet or constrained demand caused by supply interruptions.
- Residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and service-sector consumption when sectoral data are available.
- Electricity demand versus electricity actually supplied, avoiding confusion between metered use and unmet need.
- The contribution of self-generation, off-grid systems and alternative fuels where it can be measured or estimated transparently.
Handling data gaps
Recent, consistent series are not always available for every Syrian consumption indicator. Verified observations are therefore kept separate from estimates, with ranges or scenarios used when uncertainty is material.
Any estimate should state its equation, inputs, reference period, assumptions and the source of conversion factors used.
